China's First WHO Collaborating Centre for Injury Prevention and Control Established

On January 15, 2024, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) was officially approved to establish China's first World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Injury Prevention and Control. The WHO has designated the Injury Prevention and Control and Mental Health Division of National Center for Chronic and Noncommunicabe Disease Control and Prevention (NCNCD), China CDC as the Collaborating Centre, with Researcher Duan Leilei serving as its director. This marks the second WHO Collaborating Centre within the NCNCD, China CDC.

The establishment of this Collaborating Centre is set to significantly enhance China's stature and influence in the global field of injury prevention and control. Through collaboration with the WHO, China will have the opportunity to share and promote its successful experiences and effective strategies in injury prevention and control with other countries. This initiative aims to foster international exchanges and cooperation, collectively addressing the challenges of global injury prevention and control. Additionally, it will support the "Belt and Road" initiative, promoting the joint development of injury prevention and control efforts in countries along the route.

During its tenure, the Collaborating Centre will support the WHO in enhancing global and regional capacities for injury prevention and control. It will further advance efforts in road safety, drowning prevention, and other areas of injury control, assisting the WHO in disseminating relevant experiences and technologies. The Collaborating Centre is committed to making a positive contribution to the global cause of injury prevention and control.

The establishment of China's first WHO Collaborating Centre for Injury Prevention and Control injects new vitality into China's development in the global injury prevention and control field.
