Graduate School Hosts Series of Special Lectures on Public Health Practice for MPH Applied Master's Students

From January 2nd to 6th, 2024, the Graduate School held a week-long series of special lectures on public health practice for Master of Public Health (MPH) students at Changping teaching area. These lectures brought together experts from the National Health Commission, the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, medical schools, and disease control institutions to teach the entire 2023 cohort of MPH students. The series was chaired by Liu Xuetong, Deputy Director of the Teaching Department of the Graduate School.
These lectures covered five themes: the formulation of laws, regulations, and policies; international public health perspectives; practice in county (district) level disease control institutions; analysis of public health hotspots; and the expansion of professional competence and professional thinking.
In the area of law, regulation, and policy formulation, Zhou Xiaoyuan from the Health Reform Department of the National Health Commission delivered a lecture on "Solving Global Challenges in Healthcare Reform the Chinese Way and Addressing Public Medical Issues." Regarding international public health perspectives, Li Quanle from the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association spoke on "Health Governance under the Concept of 'Big Health'." From Tsinghua University's Vanke School of Public Health and Health, Tang Kun lectured on "Global Health: Concepts and Issues." Focusing on county (district) level disease control institution practices, Ma Lin, Director of the Changping District CDC in Beijing, presented "Thoughts on the Development of Grassroots Disease Control in the New Situation of National CDC Reform." In the field of public health hotspot analysis, Zeng Guang, former Chief Epidemiologist at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, discussed "China's Major Infectious Disease Outbreak Prevention and Control Strategies and Field Epidemiology." For professional competence and thinking expansion, Ren Tao from Peking University's School of Public Health lectured on "Leadership and Public Health Career Development." Finally, Qiu Zhiyong from the Beijing Police College addressed "The Current Public Security Situation in the Capital and Responses".
Across seven lectures, experts from various professional fields provided the students with a feast for the mind and senses, inspiring thoughtful reflection and reinforcing their determination to vigorously pursue studies and initiatives in the nation's public health sector.
